Two rescued from Prestonpans fire

Two women were rescued from a house fire in Prestonpans early this morning.

Firefighters were called out to blaze about 4.15am in the ground-floor hallway of a two-storey property on Grange Crescent East.

The women, aged 42 and 43, were rescued by police before fire crews arrived.

Both occupants were taken by ambulance to Royal Edinburgh Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The blaze was extinguished using three fire trucks and one hose reel, with the fire brought under control by 4.45am.

Damage was confined to the house’s hallway.

A Scotland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the cause of the fire was unknown.
