Two people injured in motorway bridge crash

TWO people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on one of Scotland's busiest motorway bridges yesterday.

Traffic on the M90 between Edinburgh and Perth was severely disrupted after an articulated lorry, a transit van and a Toyota Auris collided on the northbound lanes of the Friarton Bridge shortly before 8am.

A 51-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee following the collision.

The woman, who had suffered head and back injuries, was freed from the Toyota by firefighters. The man was released from the van having sustained leg injuries. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "The collision led to the closure of the northbound carriageway. The southbound carriageway was also closed for a time.

"Restrictions remained in place while the damaged vehicles were recovered and to allow the bridge inspector to confirm that there was no damage to the structure of the bridge."
