Two killed in accidents on Highland roads

A MOTORCYCLIST and a car driver were killed in two separate accidents in the Scottish Highlands at the weekend.

The 21-year-old biker died after a collision with a car on the A87 at Breakish, by Broadford, on Skye at about 5:35pm on Saturday. The road was closed for five hours while officers from Northern Constabulary road policing unit examined the scene.

In the second incident, Mina Mackenzie, 77, died at the scene after her car collided with another car at about 8pm, on Saturday, on the A862 near the Lovat Bridge, Beauly, Inverness-shire.

Mrs Mackenzie, of Tomich Holdings by Beauly, had been driving a grey Microcar.

The other car involved was a silver Citron C4 with a male driver.

A police spokesman said: "The road was closed for approximately six hours to allow a full collision investigation.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to the collision and who have not yet been interviewed. ."

Northern Constabulary have appealed for witnesses to both incidents.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal. Police said details of the motorcyclist would not be released until relatives had been informed.
