Detectives described the incident as a "large-scale disturbance" involving between ten and 15 men and women.

Officers from Strathclyde Police are carrying out inquiries and checking CCTV footage.

Detective Sergeant Jackie Ferrie said the area was usually busy with pedestrians and cars.

"It's possible someone may have been making their way home either in a taxi or a bus and may have seen something suspicious," she said.

"I would urge anyone who has information to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."
