Both were arrested and the purse was recovered along with various other items.

The pair aged 47 and 43 appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday 8th May.

Sergeant Geroge Liddle from the City Centre Policing Team said: “Thanks to the vigilance of the member of the public, a victim of pick-pocketing was reunited with her belongings and two men are in custody.

“During the summer months we tend to see a rise in pick-pocketing offences, as the city centre gets busier, and so we would urge our communities to take appropriate care with their possessions and be wary of anyone acting suspiciously around them.

“Please also ensure that valuables are stored safely within pockets and bags and do not leave your items unattended at any time.
