Turkey: Fire ravages historic station

Firefighters battled a blaze that engulfed the top of Istanbul's historic Haydarpasa railway station building during restoration work yesterday. No-one was hurt.

The blaze damaged most of the roof of the early- 20th century building and the fourth floor, said Selami Ozturk, the district mayor.

Haydarpasa was built in 1908 on the Asian side of Istanbul as part of Germany's ambitious Berlin-Baghdad railway project
