Trump opponent to quit local politics

AN INDEPENDENT councillor who has been a thorn in the side of the Trump Organisation during the planning process for the Menie golf development is to quit local politics.

Debra Storr has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump’s plans for the £750 million resort near Balmedie, first announced almost a decade ago.

Last month, seven fellow councillors on the area planning authority reported her to Scotland’s local government watchdog, the Standard Commissioner, over a row in which she described Trump’s proposed clubhouse as looking like a “Victorian lunatic asylum”.

Ms Storr, who has been a councillor since 1999, yesterday announced that she will not be seeking re-election to Aberdeenshire Council at the May elections to concentrate on a new career as a planner for a renewable energy company.
