Tributes paid to teenager who died on scout trip

TRIBUTES have been paid to the teenager who died while on an adventure holiday with a scout group in the Italian Alps.

Elliot Peacock: Died at falls after jumping into a pool

Elliot Peacock, 14, from Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, died on Sunday after he jumped into a pool at Lillaz Falls, about 5,000ft above sea level, in Italy’s Gran Paradiso National Park.

He was treated at the site of the accident but could not be resuscitated.

A post-mortem examination was due to be conducted ­yesterday.

His family have travelled to Italy after being informed of the news.

Stuart Maxwell, headteacher at Eastwood High School, paid tribute yesterday.

He said: “Our entire school community is in shock and profoundly saddened at the tragic loss of Elliot. Elliot was a genuinely lovely boy, well-liked and well-mannered.

“We have been deeply moved to see so many of Elliot’s friends and pupils from the wider school community arrive at the school to lay flowers and leave cards in tribute to him.

“There will be the opportunity for pupils and staff to sign a book of condolence at the start of term and record their memories of Elliot.”

Floral tributes continued to be placed around a pine tree at the school yesterday.

Among the messages of condolences was one which read: “RIP Elliot, gone but never forgotten, Eve xx.” Others read simply “RIP Elliot”.

Pegasus Explorer Scouts, linked to the 35th Crookfur Scout Group, of which the teenager was a member, yesterday said that the group was devastated by his death: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

On a memorial Facebook site set up in the teenager’s memory, Elaine Robertson of Renfrew Town Sea Scouts posted a message which said: “Didn’t know you Elliot, but my thoughts and prayers go out to your family, friends and Scouting friends, may you rest in peace.”
