Craig Grant, 26, an engineer with an oil services company, stayed in the Aberdeenshire village of Monymusk with his wife, Fiona, and young son Owen.

Two 32 year-old men and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with Mr Grant’s death after his body was discovered close to the Galleria shopping centre in the city’s Langstane Place, near to the entrance to the Tonik cocktail bar.

In a statement, released by Police Scotland, his grieving family spoke of their loss for the first time today.

A family spokesperson said: “Craig was a devoted family man who was at his happiest when spending time with his son Owen and wife Fiona. The last few days really haven’t sunk in yet and we are still coming to terms with this unexpected loss.”

The statement continued: “Craig always had time for his friends and would have done anything to help them. I know they will miss him greatly. He was learning to play the guitar and a passionate sportsman, with golf and football being particular favourites. A keen Celtic fan, Craig liked nothing more than watching his son and nephews play football on a Sunday.

“Craig worked as a tool specialist in the offshore industry and had done that since 2006. He will be sorely missed and his loss will leave a hole in the lives of everyone who knew him. “

The spokesperson added: “I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support over the last few days. We would now ask the media that we are allowed time to grieve and that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

The three men arrested in connection with Mr Grant’s death are expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.
