Lloyd Williams, 47, was found dead in the early hours of yesterday morning at the block of flats where he lived in Fauldhouse.

Shocked friends described him as a “happy-go-lucky” man who “wouldn’t hurt a fly” and adored his elderly mother.

A police probe has been launched after neighbours said that Mr Williams had been found at the foot of the stairs at his address in Main Street.

The house was sealed off yesterday while detectives and forensic teams worked to gather evidence from the property.

Mr Williams had been drinking in the Masonic Lodge close to his home on the evening before his death.

Bar manager Audrey Conner said he had left the pub by about 10.30pm, though it is understood he may have stopped off at another pub on his way home.

She also stressed that Mr Williams was a “social drinker” and would normally have no more than a couple of pints.

Ms Conner described him as “lovely-natured” and “happy-go-lucky”.

She said: “He was always telling stories about his mum. He adored her. He was in here on Sunday night and was just his usual self.

“He was always the first one up on the dance floor. He loved karaoke and Duran Duran.

“He was a friend to everybody but I wouldn’t say he had one really close friend.”

Robert Weir, 61, a regular in the Masonic, said: “He was a great guy and wouldn’t hurt a fly. He would give you his last tenner and he looked after his mother, who is in a wheelchair.

“He did her shopping and really worried about her. He would come here on his own just looking for company.”

Another friend, who asked not to be named, said he was “shocked” by news of the death.

He said: “It’s unbelievable. We were sitting together on Sunday night. It was just a normal night. There was nothing untoward about it.

“He had a heart of gold and would go and get his mum’s medicine.”

Police said their investigation was at an early stage and they were unable to rule out or in any possible causes of death.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm the name of the man who was found dead at an address in Main Street, Fauldhouse, is Lloyd Williams, 47.

“The incident was reported to police yesterday at around 3.40am. A police cordon is still in place around the address, however the road has now reopened.

“The death is still being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.”
