A nine-year-old boy has been hit by a car outside a primary school in Glasgow’s east end.

The boy was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to the children’s hospital section, where it is believed he is being treated for head injuries.

He was struck by the vehicle outside Haghill Primary, on Cumbernauld Road, in the city’s Dennistoun area at about 08.30am.

Cumbernauld Road had been closed between Aberdour Street and Aberfeldy Street while police investigated. These restrictions have now been lifted.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: “Unfortunately a pupil was involved in a road traffic incident outside the school this morning.

“The school is helping the police with their inquiries.”

An appeal has been put out for any witnesses to call Police Scotland on 101.
