Woman denied handbrake cash

A WOMAN who blamed a “defective” handbrake in her car for an accident has been refused damages by a judge.

Lesley McGlinchey, 49, of Ferniehill Road, Edinburgh, parked car on a slight gradient. The vehicle rolled backwards as she opened the hatchback.

She was pinned against a bollard and suffered a broken leg and damage to her knee.

Lord Brailsford ruled she had failed to prove the accident had been caused by any fault in the handbrake. Mrs McGlinchey insisted she had applied the handbrake in the proper way, but admitted that she had not parked the car in gear, which would have prevented the accident.
