Volunteers at the Queensferry RNLI station were called out after the six-year-old black Labrador was seen in difficulty in water near Blackness Castle.

Rescuers located the dog around half a mile from the shore.

The lifeboat crew rescued the dog, who was cold, tired and disoriented, and took her on board.

She was wrapped in a blanket before being returned to her owner at Blackness.

A spokesman for Queensferry RNLI said: “The owner did the correct thing in contacting the Coastguard for assistance rather than entering the water and endangering themselves.”
