UK to ban sale of petrol and diesel cars in 2030 - five years earlier than planned, FT reports

An official ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars in the UK is expected to be announced by the UK Government next week, the Financial Times reports .

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to confirm sales of new petrol and diesel-powered cars will officially be scrapped from 2030, five years earlier than previously planned.

The UK’s original plan was to ban petrol and diesel-run vehicles from the market by 2040 as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and in February Johnson brought this forward to 2035.

But latest reports reveal it could be in just ten years’ time.
