Two people killed in Lanarkshire crash named

POLICE have named a 21-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger who died when the car they were in crashed into a wall.

Graham Mathie and Jane Gilbert were in a red Mitsubishi Lancer travelling north on the B7078 Carlisle Road in Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire, at 8.25pm on Sunday when it left the carriageway, mounted the pavement and hit a wall at the junction with Craighead Gardens.

Mr Mathie, of Coalburn, and Ms Gilbert, of Lanark, both South Lanarkshire, died at the scene of the crash, police said.

Their families have been told and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
