Tram work traffic plans ‘bedding in well’

New traffic plans put into place because of the latest tram works are “bedding in well”, according to city leaders.

Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, the city’s transport leader, thanked motorists for their co-operation during the first phase of work but warned of more to come, as Shandwick Place is due to close this weekend.

St Andrew Street has been closed to traffic since last Saturday and Shandwick Place will close this Saturday from 5am.

Cllr Mackenzie said: “I would like to thank drivers for their co-operation and patience so far, but also remind them that there are further measures being introduced in line with the closure of Shandwick Place this weekend.

“I have visited the council’s traffic control room during rush hour a number of times this week and, from what I have seen, the traffic management is bedding in well.

“That said, I would still encourage anyone planning a journey in or around the city centre to consult the council website for information on journey times, parking and public transport prior to travelling.”

The east side of St Andrew Square is closed to vehicles with all traffic switched to the west side, while Shandwick Place will be closed to all traffic between Atholl Crescent and Lothian Road.
