Thieves crash Chevrolet after stealing key during break-in

THIEVES stole a car and crashed in it into another vehicle after stealing the ignition key from the owner during a break-in.

The black Chevrolet car was stolen using the key taken during a raid in Fells Rigg, Livingston, at around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Soon afterwards, the stolen car was involved in a collision with a parked vehicle in Nether Dechmont Place and was later found abandoned in Deans South.

Inspector Simon Bradshaw, of the force’s road policing branch at Livingston, said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have information about this theft to contact police.

“The opportunity is also taken to remind vehicle owners about the importance of keeping their car keys in a safe place. Most modern cars cannot be started without the true key and thieves will seek to steal car keys, which are often left on open display in homes, before stealing the car from the driveway.”
