The bridge, which carries traffic across the Firth of Tay from Newport-on-Tay in Fife to Dundee, was shut in both directions as authorities attended the scene on Monday morning.

Police thanked the public for avoiding the area.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland received a report of concern for a person on the Tay Bridge shortly after 3am on Monday, 31 August.

“The woman has been traced safely. The bridge was closed as a precaution while officers attended and has since reopened.”
