Swans bring A9 traffic to a standstill

Commuters travelling to Inverness were in a flap this morning – after a family of swans brought traffic on the A9 to a standstill.

Two swans and four cygnets were spotted calmly waddling along the outside lane on the southbound approach to the Kessock Bridge.

Police received a call initially at 6am saying the family of geese were close to the North Kessock layby, then two hours later they were reported to be on the road.

The SSPCA were called to the scene and an officer managed to safely herd the family away from the carriageway.

Commuters north of the Kessock Bridge are already facing delays due to a four-month programme of repairs and refurbishment on the bridge.
