Stolen car crashed into Glasgow house at 80mph

Alison Timoney was sitting in the living room of her Bishopbriggs home when the car left the road, knocked over a lamppost and careered through the garden hedge, crashing into her car before somersaulting and landing on its roof just inches from the window.

The terrifying incident happened around 10.30pm on Friday night in Menteith Avenue.

And CCTV footage shows the shocking moment the car smashed into the house.

The male driver and two passengers managed to escape the wreck and fled the scene, with police still tracing the trio.

Ms Timoney told the Kirkintilloch Herald: “I was sitting about two feet away from where the car stopped. I thought a bomb had gone off.

“It completely demolished my hedge and a garden wall. My car was also smashed.”

Ms Timoney’s husband Raymond was in another room of the house.

She added: “We were lucky not to be killed or injured. I am still in shock.

“We were told the car must have been going at about 80mph in a 30mph zone.”

And Mrs Timoney is calling on East Dunbartonshire Council to install traffic calming measures in their street and the surrounding areas.

She explained: “The car left the road at a grassy park area where people are usually out and about, particularly kids.

“I dread to think what might have happened had the crash happened an hour or two earlier in the evening.”

The damage to the Timoneys’ house and property is expected to run into thousands of pounds.
