Shetland pedestrian killed in car collision

A MAN walking on a road in Shetland has been killed after a collision with a car.The emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on the B9074 road at Hamnavoe at about 1.50am today

The man was later named by police as George Michael Armour, 38, from Shetland.

The road is currently restricted to traffic with one lane open, whilst closed through the Tingwall Valley allowing access to properties in the area only.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The driver of the motor car is in custody and due to appear in court tomorrow.”

He also appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101 or on Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man is in a serious condition after a one-vehicle crash on the Isle of Lewis in the early hours of Saturday.

The emergency services were called to the scheme on the A857 at Lionel, Ness, around 00.50am.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “As a result of the collision the sole occupant of the vehicle, a 24 year old male, sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transferred to Hospital in Paisley.

“The road remained closed at the locus until 6pm, with local diversions, whilst inquiries into the collision are carried out by officers from Divisional Road Policing Unit North.”
