The incident happened shortly before 11.15am today on the A7 from Galashiels to Selkirk in the Borders and was attended by the emergency services.

It is thought that three of the seven people involved had suspected whiplash, while the remaining four were taken to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The three cars were involved in a bumper to bumper collision.

“There were two casualties released by firefighters using hydraulic cutting gear. Another casualty was released by a paramedic as we arrived.

“In total, there were seven people varying in age from 59 to 5-months-old. They were all taken to the Borders General Hospital (BGH).”

It is believed three of the seven went to hospital as “confirmed casualties”. The other four were checked at the scene and thought to be fine, but they were also taken to the BGH for checks. The baby was thought to have been one of those four.
