A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said four of the crash victims were “walking wounded” while the other three were taken away from the incident on stretchers. The bypass was closed eastbound, with long delays on the M8, A70, A71, Wester Hailes Road and Gillespie Road.

One driver said the incident had caused four-mile tailbacks eastbound on the M8.

Police Scotland were unable to confirm details of injuries.
