Seven hurt after bus crashes into Dunbar house

SEVEN people were injured when a bus crashed into a cottage after colliding with a car.

Witnesses said the vehicle became lodged in the building in Dunbar, East Lothian, which was unoccupied while undergoing renovations.

Firefighters, who were called to the scene at 10:15am yesterday, had to cut the bus driver free.

One passenger, the bus driver and the driver of a Vauxhall car were described as being in a serious condition, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The man and woman in the car, both aged 65, were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with possible chest injuries, the fire service said.

Ross Hardie, a local resident, said: “There must have been at least 30 police cars, about a dozen fire engines, five ambulances and two major incident support units going in.

“It’s a massive response. I’ve never seen anything like that.”

The number 120 bus, which is run by private contractor Eve Coaches on behalf of East Lothian Council, had been travelling from Dunbar to North Berwick when the accident occurred.
