Rise in Lothian road deaths

THE number of people killed on roads in the Lothians rose from 12 to 19 during the last year, new figures have shown.

The Lothian and Borders Police figures also showed that the number of people who lost their lives in road accidents in Edinburgh between last April and March climbed from seven to 12.

Across the Lothians, those seriously injured in road accidents fell from 291 the previous year to 283.

Minor injuries also decreased from 2192 to 2132.

One child was killed on the roads in the Lothians during the last year while 35 were seriously injured and 256 suffered minor injuries.
