Rest and Be Thankful diversion route closed due to floods as storms batter Scotland

The Old Military Road has been closed due to extreme flooding as storms hit the west coast of the country.

The diversion route for the A83 Rest and Be Thankful has been closed due to flooding from the river.

Traffic is now being diverted via the A82/85 and the A819.

Road operator BEAR Scotland has said that they will be working to ensure that the road is able to open as soon as possible.

This road in Argyll has suffered a string of landslips in the past few years.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for Scotland across Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “A belt of very strong and possibly squally southerly winds will develop on Saturday morning with gusts of 60-65 mph, perhaps 70 mph.

“However they will remain very strong across Scotland and Northern Ireland into the evening.”
