Relative speaks of anguish as crash victims named

A RELATIVE of a family of four from Bathgate who were killed when their car veered into the path of a lorry on the A801 near Polmont spoke of her anguish today as police named the victims.

Graham Lockhart, 23, and his partner Shauna Robb, 20, from Bathgate, died along with their son Tyler David, two, and daughter Arianna Rose Sheryl, who was eleven months.

Police said their black Fiat hatchback had crossed into the path of oncoming traffic and collided with a lorry.

The crash happened at 2:20pm yesterday, just south of the Lathallan roundabout, where the road joins the M9 at Polmont.

The car was travelling north towards the roundabout, and the lorry driving south.

Police Scotland said the children had been properly secured in their car seats.

Paying tribute on a social media website, Mr Lockhart’s sister, Sheryl Jones, wrote: “To have you ripped away from us is hard enough, but to have all four of you torn away is just crushing.

“Never felt such pain baby bro. I love the four of yous with all my heart.

“My only comfort is that yous are all together. Wish use would all just walk through the door and this to be a horrible nightmare.

“You’ll never understand how much we all loved yous.”

In separate statements released through the police, the two families also paid tribute.

The family of Ms Robb said: “The Robb family are devastated at the loss of their daughter, her partner and their two grandchildren and wish to be left alone to grieve.”

The family of Mr Lockhart said: “The Lockhart family are devastated at the loss of their son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren and wish to be left to grieve in peace.”

Among other tributes, Nicole Sweeney said: “RIP Graham Lockhart and his family. Too young to go.

“Can’t believe you are gone, can remember us running about together when we were younger, such a nice guy. God only takes the best.”

David Chant wrote: “If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

“Always going to be missed bro; you, Shauna and the kids - sleep tight.”

Chelsea Wright tweeted: “Can’t believe it, two beautiful children and a lovely couple, can’t get over what’s happened. Rip Shauna, Graham and your beautiful babies.”

Police are still seeking witnesses to the crash, including the driver of a silver people carrier seen in the area before the crash, although the force declined to discuss its potential significance.

Sergeant Andrew Thomson, from Forth Valley road policing, said: “We are continuing our appeal for anyone who witnessed this tragic collision or who saw a black Fiat hatchback in the area prior to the incident at 2:20pm.

“We are particularly keen to trace the driver of a silver people carrier, which was seen in the area prior to the crash.

Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty has campaigned for the A801 to be upgraded to dual carriageway, describing it two years ago as “probably the most dangerous road in Scotland when it is not snowing”.

The north-south route connects the M9 and M8.

Falkirk Council, which is responsible for the road, said it planned to straighten a bendy section of the road through Avon Gorge, which is further south from where the crash happened.

In 2012 a 40-year-old man died after his Mercedes E220 collided head on with an articulated lorry.

Last year a lorry driver died on the road when his vehicle overturned.
