Police to crush vehicles of uninsured drivers

Uninsured cars face being crushed during a high profile campaign launched today by a Scottish police force.

Strathclyde’s Operation Revoke will see officers deployed at strategic locations throughout the area clamping down on motorists who drive without a licence or insurance.

Officers will target irresponsible motorists who are potentially putting the lives of others at risk by driving illegally and will include those who drive with
incorrect insurance.

Strathclyde Police said between January and September this year, 3,206 cars were seized – with 634 disposed of either by being crushed or sold at auction – and 4,069 motorists caught without insurance.

Experts from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), will be brought in to provide specialist training to officers in respect of the more complex areas of insurance legislation.
