Phone scan warning

POLICE have warned motorists to be on their guard against thieves who use Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones to “scan” vehicles for electronic devices to steal.

Thieves with phones are able to detect other Bluetooth devices to determine whether a vehicle is worth breaking into.

A police spokesman said: “Among the favourite items for thieves are small portable gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, MP3 players and satellite navigation systems.”
