Passengers left '˜fainting and in tears' on busy Edinburgh train

TRAIN passengers travelling to Edinburgh claim people were fainting on overcrowded standing-room only trains.

Other passengers, many of whom were travelling to the Capital for the Christmas market, said they were left in tears in the CrossCountry train carriages on Saturday morning.

One passenger, who boarded the Edinburgh-bound train at Alnmouth at 10am, said that several people had fainted in the “jammed packed” carriage.

On Twitter, another passenger, Shelly Williamson, posted a picture of her congested carriage and asked CrossCountry: “Is this even legal?”

In a tweet reply, CrossCountry wrote: “Apologies for the crowding on board, we appreciate it doesn’t look great. It isn’t illegal however as trains don’t have a stated maximum capacity.”

Other passengers reported seeing people in “tears” as carriages were so congested.
