New pricing structure puts taxi fares up

TAXI passengers in West Lothian are to see their fares increase after a new pricing structure was agreed by the council.

From October 22, the initial cost of booking a taxi will go up by 40p – to £2.60 on weekday mornings and daytimes, and £3 for evenings, through the night and on weekends. Cancellation fees will also rise to £2.60.

But peak rate for Christmas and New Year will fall by 50p to £3.90 for the initial hire, with the cost for travelling 240 yards or waiting for 43 seconds reduced from 40p to 30p.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Taxi fares haven’t changed in West Lothian since 2008, and it’s important they remain fair to both the public and taxi industry.

“These changes were implemented after consultation with the taxi industry, and no objections or comments were received when the proposals were advertised.”
