New £22.3m River Don crossing to be called Diamond Bridge
Pupils from primary schools near the new bridge voted for the name from a shortlist of nine.
A total of 441 pupils from Danestone and Riverbank schools took part and the Diamond Bridge, commemorating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and the royal family’s links with Aberdeen and the surrounding area, won 46.5% of the vote.

Hide AdSt Machar’s Bridge was second with 14.7% of the votes. Other names in the running were Gordon Bridge, The Cruives Bridge, Gordon’s Mills Bridge, New Grandholm Bridge, Marischal Bridge, Third Don and Elphinstone Bridge.
Aberdeen city councillors will now be asked to approve the name at a meeting on Tuesday.
