Motorcyclist killed in collision with car on rural road is named by police

THE motorcyclist who was killed on Sunday in an accident on a rural road in Aberdeenshire has been named.

John McLean, 38, was from the Buckie area of Moray.

He died when his blue Suzuki GSXR motorcycle collided with a red Alfa Romeo about a mile north of Lumsden on the A97 Huntly-to-Lumsden road.

The accident happened on a series of bends as hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts converged on nearby Alford for the annual Grampian Motorcycle Convention.

Meanwhile, Tayside Police yesterday appealed for witnesses following the death of a 41-year-old female motorcyclist who was killed on Sunday night when her black Baimo bike was involved in a collision with a black Peugeot car on the unclassified Stanley-to-Kinclaven road in Perthshire.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: “Following the initial collision, a green-coloured Kawasaki motorcycle travelling on the road was subsequently involved in minor collision with the Baimo motorcycle.

“The rider of the Kawasaki motorcycle and driver of the Peugeot car were uninjured.”
