Montreal becomes 8th new Scots air route in weeks

SCOTLAND’S first route to Montreal was announced today by Air Transat as the country’s eighth new air link in the last three weeks.

The leisure-based airline will fly weekly between Glasgow and the Canadian city from May to October next year.

It already links Scotland’s largest city with Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

The new services come at a time of resurgent Scottish air growth, with Edinburgh notching up its busiest ever July and Glasgow enjoying its busiest summer for seven years.

Passenger numbers are expected to further increase with four new routes being added at Edinburgh, two others at Glasgow and one in Aberdeen.

At Edinburgh, whose 10.7 million passengers are growing at nearly 7 per cent a year, the latest additions are Flybe to Liverpool from next month, EasyJet to Vienna from February. Finnair to Helsinki in April and Delta to New York in May.

Glasgow, which has 8.3m annual passengers and is growing at nearly 11 per cent, will also add Flybe flights to Exeter next month and British Airways flights to Salzburg in December.

Air Iceland will fly from Aberdeen to Reykjavik from March.
