MarineCo adds second boat to support fleet

BOAT operator MarineCo has launched the second vessel commissioned under a funding deal with Clydesdale Bank as the Straiton-based company moves into the offshore renewable energy market.

The company secured nearly £10 million when it switched from Royal Bank of Scotland in April.

The cash has allowed it to build a pair of catamarans to take engineers and equipment out to wind farms through choppy seas. MarineCo is also involved in dredging and offshore engineering projects.

Launched in 1996, the company employs 53 – six at its head office near Edinburgh and 47 on its vessels, which are located around the Middle East, northern Europe and the UK.

The latest vessel will sail for Germany this week, where it will serve as a maintenance support vessel for the building of a large offshore wind farm.
