Man killed by train at Thornliebank Station

Train services between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride were cancelled after a man was hit and killed by a train on Friday morning.

The incident occured around 6am at the Thornliebank Station, with passengers being advised that trains would no longer be stopping there.

Replacement buses were provided for passengers for the Hairmyres, Busby, Clarkston, Giffnock, and Glasgow Central stations.

Services were returned to normal withing an hour and a spokesperson for ScotRail said that the Thornliebank station was expected to be open later today.

A spokesperson said: “Sadly a person was struck by a train early this morning in the Thornliebank area.

“The train was not in passenger service at the time.

“As a result services between East Kilbride and Glasgow Central were suspended for a time but are now returning to normal.

“We arranged replacement buses to run in both directions. Customers were also able to use their rail tickets on First Glasgow buses.”
