Man killed in lorry tragedy

AN ELDERLY man has been killed by a lorry in a busy city street.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was crossing Calder Street in Govanhill in the southside of Glasgow yesterday morning when he was struck by a lorry.

Strathclyde Police said the man died at the scene and the lorry driver, a 37-year-old man, was not injured but is said to be distressed by the accident.

Police are trying to identify the victim. He is white, very slim and is believed to be in his 60s. He was wearing a dark jacket, jumper, jeans and a baseball cap.

Sergeant Iain Pittams appealed for witnesses to help police with their inquires.
