Lorry and van collide near West Lothian Tesco distribution centre - the second serious crash in area within 24 hours

Police have been called to a second serious road crash in part of West Lothian in less than 24 hours.

One man was taken to hospital after a heavy goods lorry and a van collided in Carnegie Road, just outside the Tesco distribution centre between Bathgate and Livingston, just before 7am on Tuesday morning. The road remains closed.

It comes after three people were taken to hospital yesterday with serious injuries – including one woman with life-threatening injuries – due to a crash involving three cars and two motorcycles just a couple of miles away on the A7066 road, at the junction with the B792 road, Bathgate.

The road was closed off for eight hours between Boghall Roundabut and Inch Roundabout to allow for crash scene investigations following the incident at about 4:30pm.

Police have today appealed for witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Inspector Andy Gibb, of Lothians Road Policing, said: “This was a serious collision involving a number of vehicles and we are looking for anybody who was driving on the road or witnessed the incident to contact police. “One woman has sustained life threatening injuries and I would urge anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward. "In particular, if there were any vehicles in the area at the time that may have dashcam footage that could help officers, I would ask that you get in touch.”Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 2397 of Monday, 6 July, 2020.

Tuesday’s crash

A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland was made aware of a road crash involving a van and a lorry on Carnegie Road in Livingston shortly before 7am on Tuesday, 7 July, 2020.

“One man has been taken to hospital and the road remains closed.”

A fire service spokesperson confirmed three fire engines were called to the scene and that hydraulic cutting gear was used.

The spokesperson also confirmed the collision happened by the Tesco distribution centre and involved a heavy goods vehicle and a van.

Pictures sent to the Evening News showed a police van at the Royston Roundabout with the road closed off.

A number of locals said on social social media that an air ambulance was called to both road traffic collisions.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has also been contacted.
