TESTS are being carried out on human remains which have been found seven miles offshore.

Police were called to Arbroath Harbour this morning after a fishing vessel dredged up the remains off the coast of the Angus town.

Tests carried out today confirmed that they are human.

Further examinations will now be conducted to establish roughly how old the remains are and long they have been in the water.

Police are contacting the families of outstanding missing people from the Tayside area to make them aware of the discovery.
