Firefighters tackle industrial estate blaze in Dundee through the night

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at an industrial estate in Dundee throughout the night.

The alarm was raised around 8:15pm on Sunday evening and firefighters were reported to still be at the scene at 5am on Monday morning, having been there for around nine hours at the time.

The Evening Telegraph reported that the blaze on Forties Road was believed to be at a unit formerly owned by the Wood Group and that several people have reported hearing ‘small explosions’ or ‘popping’ noises coming from the area where the fire is burning.

Some local roads were closed as emergency services tackled the incident and police asked people to avoid the area.

Local residents were also advised to close their windows due to smoke.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said six fire engines and other support appliances.

Tayside Police tweeted: “Police and SFRS are dealing with a fire at Baldovie Industrial Estate, Dundee. Drumgeith Road is closed between Summerfield Avenue and Berwick Drive.

“Police request members of the public to avoid this area and for local residents to close their windows due to excessive smoke.”
