Family plea over son’s isle death

THE family of a teenager found dead on Lewis said yesterday that identifying him was “one of the most heartbreaking days ever”.

Liam Aitchison, 16, had been missing for more than a week before his body was discovered in a derelict building in the Steinish area of Stornoway on Tuesday afternoon.

Liam’s family issued a statement saying: “Today has been one of the most heartbreaking days ever, where we had to formally identify Liam.

“We would like to thank everyone for all the kind words and offers of support. We’d also like to thank the police and our family liaison officers.

“Most importantly, we beg you if you have any information and have not brought it forward as yet, we urge you please go to the police. Without this help we can’t get peace.”

Northern Constabulary are treating the death as suspicious.

Inquiries are continuing and post-mortem investigations will take place over the next few days, they added.

Mr Aitchison was last seen on Tuesday 22 November around 9pm in the Anderson Road area and it is believed he may have been in the Co-op on Macaulay Road earlier.
