Extra space on Shetland and Orkney Easter ferries

NORTHLINK Ferries, the company which operates ferry services to the Northern Isles, has responded to customer demand by creating extra vehicle space on its passenger ferries to Shetland and Orkney over Easter weekend.

A company spokesman said today: “The addition of an extra two crossings of the Hildasay freight vessel from Lerwick to Aberdeen shifts freight vehicles to those vessels and creates more space for cars on the passenger ferries.

“The Hildasay will make its extra journeys from Lerwick to Aberdeen on Thursday, 28 March, returning from Aberdeen to Lerwick on Friday, 29 March.”

Stuart Garrett, the company’s managing director, said: “We always take care to monitor our passenger numbers and where there is the call for it we can increase our services in order to accommodate this.

“Traditionally Easter weekend is a popular time for people to travel to the islands to visit family or take a break, however, having recently launched our tourism campaign, encouraging mainland residents to visit the Northern Isles, we have seen an increase in demand for travel to the islands.”
