Glasgow airport is expected to follow suit shortly, leaving just Prestwick among the main Scottish airports without the service.

David Wilson, Edinburgh airport’s chief operating officer, said: “We are committed to giving our passengers the best experience possible when they travel with us and providing free wi-fi throughout the terminal is part of this.

“We listen to customer feedback and work hard to give people what they want.”

Highlands and Islands Airports, whose 11 airports include Inverness, Dundee and Stornoway, started offering free wi-fi in some of their terminals last month and said the majority were now connected.

A Glasgow airport spokesman said: “We are currently committing significant investment to improving the quality, capacity, coverage and speed of our wifi services throughout our two terminal buildings.

“Not only will it deliver an improved service for customers, it will provide our business partners with a robust platform that will enable future product development and allow them to achieve further operational efficiencies.”
