NEARLY half of cars in Scotland failed their MoT test last year, an analysis of government figures shows today.

The 43 per cent failure rate compared to 40 per cent across the UK, the motoring website honestjohn reported.

It said lighting and signalling problems were the most common reasons for failure, the cause in nearly one in five cases. Faults with suspension and brakes were the other most frequent factors.

The MoT files are available to view at honestjohn.co.uk/mot, which the website said enabled drivers to check common faults by model, year of registration and postcodes.

Honestjohn editor Daniel Harrison said: “This is information that has been kept from car owners for many years. It’s the first time this information has been made available in this detail and in a format that makes it easy to access.”
