Drunk cyclists face charges

SEVEN cyclists were charged with riding a bike while drunk over the last year, new figures have shown.

The cyclists were charged between last April and March while four people were charged with riding a bike dangerously in the force area during the same period. Police also charged six cyclists with carelessly or inconsiderate riding.

In recent months, the St Leonards Safer Neighbourhood Team Cycle Unit have carried out patrols monitoring cycling in the Meadows areas following complaints about dangerous cycling.

The unit has covered thousands of miles of patrols in the Meadows, Morningside, Southside and Newington areas.
