Drivers to face delays as Olympic Torch crosses Forth Road Bridge

DRIVERS using the Forth Road Bridge face delays when a 50-vehicle convoy accompanying the Olympic Torch crosses during the evening rush hour next Wednesday.

The bridge will be temporarily shut during the scheduled crossing, en route from Dunfermline to Hopetoun House, near South Queensferry, at 4:26pm.

Officials said such “rolling closures” were not normally permitted during peak hours because of the disruption they caused.

Barry Colford, Chief Engineer & Bridgemaster, said: “Some disruption is expected – we’re advising bridge users to plan accordingly.

“The police have asked us to implement these restrictions while the Olympic Torch convoy crosses ”

The bridge will also be closed to cyclists and pedestrians from 1pm.
