Driver killed in Skye car crash

A driver has been killed in a two-car crash on the Isle of Skye.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on the A87 Broadford to Portree road at Druim at Nan Cleochd at 4.19pm on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “As a result of the collision one of the drivers was fatally injured.

“Emergency Services were called to the scene and as enquiries are still ongoing in relation to the notification of family members The Police Service of Scotland are unable to disclose further information at this time.

“Further investigation is still underway and Police are appealing for anybody with further information to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously to Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.”

It was the second fatal crash in the Highlands in the space of three days.

A male student in his 20s died and three others were injured in a one-vehicle crash in the Highlands at the weekend.

Emergency crews were called to the A87 Kyle of Lochalsh to Invergarry road, west of Invergarry, at about 5.30pm on Saturday.

They are understood to have been returning to the Central Belt from a holiday on Skye when the accident happened about five miles south of the Bun Loyne junction of the A887.

A female was flown to Raigmore Hospital with serious head injuries while the other two male occupants sustained minor injuries and were conveyed by ambulance to Belford Hospital, Fort William, with minor injuries.

The road was closed for six and a half hours and diversions set up.
