Drifting cargo boat towed to safety

A CARGO BOAT is under tow off the north-west coast of Scotland after losing power overnight.

The four-man crew of the Lerwick-registered Norholm raised the alarm just after 6pm when they got into difficulty off Cape Wrath and started drifting towards land in stormy weather.

The Stornoway Coastguard helicopter was alerted to provide support in case they were forced to abandon ship.

But Lochinver Lifeboat reached the vessel and tower her around the coast.

Thurso Lifeboat and the Coastguard tug Herakles have been called to the scene to provide assistance.
