Desire to cut emissions in airport ‘prospectus’

The city council is to include mention of its desire to cut emissions in a “prospectus” it is intending to present to all groups that are interested in buying Edinburgh Airport.

Councillors have agreed to proposals for a supplementary prospectus to be produced in the form of a special edition of the Invest Edinburgh magazine telling bidders of the city’s “key messages”.

And they agreed to a proposal by Green councillor Steve Burgess to include details of the council’s legal duty under the Climate Change (Scotland) Act to “act in the way best calculated to contribute to the delivery of national emissions reduction targets, which includes emissions from aviation”.

BAA was ordered to sell either Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport. The city council expects it to be formally brought to the market in January, with a view to agreeing a sale in the summer of 2012.
