Death by dangerous driving accused found dead

AN ABERDEENSHIRE MAN, who appeared in court last month accused of causing a pensioner’s death by dangerous driving, has been found dead in a wooD.

And it is understood that Police Scotland are investigating the possibility that Edward Shaw, 50, died from hypothermia.

Mr Shaw, who was from the Inverurie area, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 22 October in connection with the death of 79 year-old retired nurse Margaret Laing.

Mrs Laing, 79, was killed on 21 October when she was struck by a car while standing outside her niece’s home on the B977 Dyce to Hatton of Fintray road in Aberdeenshire.

Mr Shaw appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and drink-driving. He made no plea and the case was continued and he was released on bail until the next hearing.

It has now emerged that Mr Shaw’s body was discovered in a woodland area near his Inverurie home by a member of the public last week.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is normal with all sudden deaths. There would appear to no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”

Mrs Laing is survived by her husband Alan, 78, and sons Alan, 55, and Ian, 52, Her family declined to comment on Mr Shaw’s death.
